workforceBeing part of the United Kingdom, Scotland shares many of the same employment problems faced by both the Great Britain and Ireland, and has an employment rate of around 78%. This year’s employment figures showed unemployment in Scotland at the lowest it has been for 27 years.

These performance statistics indicate that the labour market within Scotland is continuing to improve. Both the International Labour Organisation and Clairmont statistics have measured unemployment figures for Scotland and both are showing a down trend.

This shows that Scotland has a healthy and growing employment situation, with a well trained, locally available work force. Much of this recent success is due to legislation passed by the Scottish Government, intended to focus on Scottish industry and commence, in an effort to curb the rising unemployment figures seen in the last decade. This is a major distinction between Scotland and the UK, the autonomy allowed the local Scottish Government has facilitated them to look to their own local people and solve many of the long standing problems faced in the area. With several key industries within Scotland, employing a high percentage of the work force, steps have been taken to ensure that jobs are protected by nurturing major employers.

The outlook for Scotland looks good, it has managed to climb its way out of the depression which affected it in the last decade, and the future looks a lot less bleak.
